Flick: Barcelona's Monaco Loss 'Unacceptable' Performance
Barcelona suffered a humiliating 3-1 defeat at the hands of AS Monaco in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie, leading to a scathing assessment from manager Xavi Hernandez.
The loss, which saw Barcelona concede three goals in the final 20 minutes, has left the Catalan giants with a mountain to climb in the second leg at Camp Nou. Xavi was quick to acknowledge the disappointment, calling the performance "unacceptable".
"We didn't deserve to win, we played badly," admitted Xavi. "We were lacking intensity, we were not aggressive enough, and we made too many mistakes. This is not the Barcelona that I want to see. We need to improve a lot, and we need to do it quickly."
A Night of Errors
The game started brightly for Barcelona, with Ousmane Dembele giving them the lead in the 7th minute. However, the lead was short-lived as Monaco equalized through Wissam Ben Yedder just before half-time.
The second half saw Monaco take control, with goals from Ben Yedder and Breel Embolo sealing a resounding victory. Barcelona's defensive vulnerabilities were exposed, with poor communication and individual errors costing them dearly.
"We need to be more focused, more concentrated, and we need to learn from our mistakes," said Xavi. "We need to be more clinical in front of goal, and we need to be stronger defensively. We have a lot of work to do, but I believe in this team."

Despite the heavy defeat, Xavi remains optimistic about Barcelona's chances of progressing to the next round. "We have the quality to turn things around," he stated. "We need to play with more intensity, more belief, and we need to show more courage. We need to be more like the Barcelona that we were in the first half of the season."
