Malibu Shaken by 3.6 Magnitude Earthquake This Morning
Malibu, CA - Residents of Malibu were jolted awake this morning by a 3.6 magnitude earthquake that struck just off the coast. The quake, which occurred at approximately 6:45 AM PST, was centered about 5 miles southwest of Point Dume, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
No Major Damage Reported
While the earthquake was felt throughout Malibu and parts of the surrounding areas, there have been no reports of significant damage. Local authorities are currently assessing the situation and conducting damage surveys.
"It felt like a big truck went by," said one Malibu resident. "I was in bed and the whole house shook. It was pretty scary."
"We're thankful that there have been no major injuries or damages reported," said Malibu Mayor Rick Parisi. "Our city is prepared for these types of events and we're working with emergency services to ensure the safety of all residents."
Aftershocks Possible
The USGS is monitoring the situation and has warned that there is a possibility of aftershocks. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and follow safety guidelines.
