IND 339/6: India's Strong Start in 1st Test vs Bangladesh
India made a strong start to the first Test against Bangladesh, reaching 339/6 at stumps on day one in Chattogram. The visitors dominated the opening day, with KL Rahul and Shubman Gill setting the tone with a century opening stand.
A Century Opening Stand Sets the Stage
The opening pair of Rahul and Gill put on a commanding 140-run partnership to lay the foundation for India's dominant first day. Rahul was particularly aggressive, reaching his fifty off just 58 balls. He went on to score 103 runs before being dismissed by Taijul Islam.
Gill, on the other hand, was more patient and calculated. He reached his half-century in the first session and continued to score steadily throughout the day. He finished the day unbeaten on 110 runs, his second Test century.
Rohit Sharma's Crucial Contribution
Captain Rohit Sharma also made a crucial contribution, scoring 54 runs off 64 balls. He provided valuable support to Gill after Rahul's dismissal and helped India build a strong lead before falling to Shoriful Islam.
The middle order also chipped in with valuable contributions. Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli both scored half-centuries, while Rishabh Pant provided a late flurry of runs with his aggressive batting.
Bangladesh Bowlers Struggle to Make Inroads
Bangladesh's bowlers struggled to contain the Indian batsmen, especially in the first session. The pitch offered very little assistance to the bowlers, and the Indian batsmen made the most of it.
Taijul Islam and Shoriful Islam were the only two bowlers to take more than one wicket. The Bangladesh spinners were particularly ineffective, with Taijul Islam conceding 103 runs in his 20 overs.
Day Two Promises More Exciting Cricket
India will be hoping to build on their strong start on day two and declare their innings early to give themselves a chance to bowl Bangladesh out cheaply. Bangladesh will need to improve their bowling performance if they want to stay in the game.
Overall, India's performance on day one was impressive. They were dominant in all three departments, and they will be the favorites going into day two.
