Huskers Voice Greg Sharpe Out For Game, Cancer Battle
Lincoln, NE – The Huskers football program received a tough blow on Tuesday as longtime voice of the team, Greg Sharpe, announced he will be taking a leave of absence to focus on his health. Sharpe is battling cancer and will be unable to call the upcoming game against the Indiana Hoosiers on Saturday.
"It's been an incredible journey," Sharpe wrote in a statement released by the University of Nebraska. "I've had the pleasure of calling some of the greatest moments in Husker football history, and I'm so grateful for the fans who have made this job so special. While I won't be able to be on the sidelines this weekend, I'll be cheering on the Huskers from home."
Sharpe, who has been the voice of the Huskers since 2002, has become synonymous with the program. His enthusiastic calls and knowledge of the game have become a staple for Husker fans. His absence will be deeply felt by the players, coaches, and fans alike.
