Husker Radio Announcer Out for Illinois Game
Lincoln, NE - Fans of Nebraska Husker football will be missing a familiar voice on the radio this weekend. Greg Sharpe, longtime radio play-by-play announcer for Husker football games on the Husker Sports Network, will be absent for the upcoming game against the Illinois Fighting Illini.
Sharpe, who has been the voice of Husker football since 2008, announced on his personal social media channels that he will be taking a break from announcing duties due to a personal commitment.
"I'm excited to be taking some time to focus on a family matter that requires my attention," said Sharpe in his post. "I'm looking forward to being back on the call soon, but for now, I'll be cheering on the Huskers from home."
While fans will miss Sharpe's signature calls, the Husker Sports Network has confirmed that Matt Davison, the network's sideline reporter, will be filling in as the play-by-play announcer for the game. Davison has experience in this role, having previously called several games for the network.
"Matt is a talented broadcaster and we are confident he will do a great job filling in for Greg," said Jim Rose, the Husker Sports Network Director. "We wish Greg all the best and look forward to his return to the booth."
The Nebraska Huskers are scheduled to take on the Illinois Fighting Illini on Saturday, November 4th at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln. Kickoff is scheduled for 11:00 AM CST.
