Huntley Joins Dolphins: Tua Backup Secured
The Miami Dolphins have bolstered their quarterback depth, signing veteran Josh Huntley to a one-year deal. The move comes after the Dolphins addressed their starting quarterback position by acquiring Tua Tagovailoa from the Miami Dolphins in a blockbuster trade.
Huntley Brings Experience and Leadership
Huntley, 31, has spent the last three seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, serving as a reliable backup to Lamar Jackson. He's known for his strong arm and ability to extend plays, even rushing for 10 touchdowns in his time in Baltimore.
"Josh is a seasoned veteran who understands the importance of being prepared and ready to contribute at any moment," said Dolphins Head Coach Mike McDaniel. "He brings leadership and experience to our quarterback room, and we're excited to have him in Miami."
A Familiar Face for McDaniel
The addition of Huntley is particularly intriguing as he previously worked with McDaniel during their time together in San Francisco. McDaniel served as the 49ers' offensive coordinator while Huntley spent time there in 2019.
"I've always admired Josh's work ethic and dedication to the game," said McDaniel. "He's a true competitor who will push Tua and the rest of our quarterbacks to be their best."
Depth Chart Clarity
With Huntley on board, the Dolphins now have a clear hierarchy at quarterback. Tua Tagovailoa is the undisputed starter, while Josh Huntley will serve as his backup. This gives the Dolphins the depth they need to navigate the inevitable bumps in the road during the season.
"I'm excited to join this team and learn from Tua," said Huntley. "We have a lot of talent on offense, and I can't wait to contribute to the team's success."
The signing of Huntley is a smart move by the Dolphins, giving them a reliable and experienced backup who can step in if needed. The move further strengthens the Dolphins' offense, giving them the flexibility to compete for a playoff spot in the highly competitive AFC East.
