Arsenal Held by Atalanta at 0-0 in a Frustrating Champions League Draw
Arsenal's hopes of a Champions League knockout stage berth took a hit as they were held to a goalless draw by Atalanta at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday.
Despite dominating possession and creating a number of chances, the Gunners were unable to break down a resolute Atalanta defense, leaving them with a crucial point in their quest for qualification.
A Tale of Two Halves
The first half saw Arsenal take control of the game, with Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli looking particularly dangerous down the flanks. However, they lacked the clinical edge in front of goal, with several shots going wide or being saved by a determined Pierluigi Gollini in the Atalanta goal.
The second half saw a more cagey affair, with Atalanta coming into the game more and more. Arsenal's lack of composure in the final third continued to frustrate their fans, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette failing to make a significant impact.
Atalanta themselves had their fair share of chances, with Duván Zapata and Josip Iličić coming close to breaking the deadlock on a couple of occasions. Ultimately, however, neither side could find the net, leaving the Emirates Stadium in a rather somber mood.
Arsenal's Frustrating Draw
The goalless draw leaves Arsenal in a precarious position in Group F. While they remain in second place, they are only two points ahead of third-placed Atalanta.
With two more group games to go, Arsenal will need to find a way to start scoring goals if they want to avoid a potential fight for qualification in the latter stages.
The next game against Norwich City in the Premier League provides a crucial opportunity to boost confidence and find some much-needed attacking rhythm.
However, with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City still to face, Arsenal's Champions League campaign remains far from certain.
