Arsenal, who were looking to bounce back from their disappointing 2-1 defeat to PSV Eindhoven last week, enjoyed the majority of the possession, but they struggled to break down a well-organized Atalanta defense.
Arsenal's Dominance & Missed Opportunities
Mikel Arteta's side had several good opportunities throughout the match, with Gabriel Jesus and Bukayo Saka coming close on multiple occasions. The Brazilian striker, who has been in impressive form this season, missed a glorious chance in the first half when he headed a cross from Granit Xhaka just wide of the post.
Saka, meanwhile, was a constant threat down the right flank, but he was unable to find the target with several shots from inside the penalty area.
"We created enough chances to win the game," said Arteta after the match. "We were dominant, but we didn't take our chances. We have to be more clinical in front of goal."
Atalanta's Defensive Resilience
Atalanta, on the other hand, defended resolutely and looked to hit Arsenal on the counterattack. They were able to restrict the Gunners' attacking threat, with goalkeeper Juan Musso making a number of key saves.
The Serie A side, who finished fifth in the league last season, had their own opportunities to score, but they were unable to capitalize on them.
